CAPSTONE VISIT
May 2007

Capstone is a U.S. military leadership program for officers about to get their first or second star. Sean hosted this group in Medan and Aceh, taking them to a Muslim boarding school, to meet with senior Acehnese leaders, and to see some tsunami recovery efforts.

Sean led a group of American Muslim leaders to a small, impoverished Pesantren. Sean loves this school and does what he can to help. He's given books, a television, English teaching materials, pencils, paper, and many other things that he buys himself or convinces other to donate. The school recognized this by holding a ceremony to formally adopt him into the Melayu clan.  In the pictures they are dressing Sean in the yellow clothes of Melayu royalty.

Tamiang, Eastern Aceh
On Christmas day terrible floods buried much of Tamiang and Langkat. Cheech, Brad and Renae went there to distribute food and clothing.  Sean was in Bangka at the time and actually learned of the floods before the governor in North Sumatra. Several foreigners believed to be Americans including some small
children who had been trekking near Bukit Lawang were stranded and threatened by rising flood waters. Despite being on the road in Sumatra's Southwest, Sean worked with the governors of Aceh and North Sumatra and with the two military commanders and the local government for a helicopter to be sent to rescue the foreigners. As it turned out, they weren't Americans, but they were some of Sean's good friends from Aceh.

The pictures here are of some of the areas most affected by the floods.
