August
August was a strange month for Alec. Too many things had happened in one
month! In the process of moving to the U.S.
we bounced from one place to another from the end of July all the way through August.
And
on...and on. And
during this travel Alec didn't having his bike, bed or many of his favorite toys around him.
In addition, Mom and Dad kept disappearing on him doing errands. This made
Alec a bit clingy and made him only wants his MOM. Time after time he would be playing happily with his aunt and cousins... until he sees Mom.
He then ONLY wanted to be held by her.
We started our journey from Dili to Jakarta at the beginning of August where Alec spent a lot of time with
his Indonesian relatives. Alec still the favorite in this family and all
of them just wanted to play with him and spoil him (i.e. devour him with many
kinds of treats) while Mom took care of the
permit to bring our nanny to the U.S. Alec got a chance to see his
favorite thing in real life: The Giant Express Bus. He begged and begged and begged
to get on the bus every time we passed one of them (or, as the case tended
to be, when they passed us) in Jakarta.
Alec also got to spend four days in Manado, North Sulawesi (Celebes). Alec's aunt,
Emma and her son joined us and Alec had a blast. Alec had so much fun in the
pool he didn't want to get out and ended up with an ear infection (his first in
a long, long, long time). Not a good thing, especially when
we were scheduled to spend the next 30 hours flying starting the next morning. Because of the medicine he
took, Alec's eating became irregular and we had to go back to diapers. But one day he insisted
that he wanted to go to the bathroom himself.

We finally get on the plane that took us to the U.S. in
mid August.
After being such a good traveler all the way from East Timor - Bali - Jakarta - Manado - Bangkok - Japan - Chicago and
after getting delayed for 4 hours in Chicago
before heading to Salt Lake City, Alec finally spoke his mind.
"I'm done, Mom",
he said. I then said: "We have one more flight to go and we're done, ok?"
He said: "Nope, done". "Bus, yes?"
Alec finally got to meet everyone in Ogden. Alec
was such a healthy eater before his arrival. He has now learned to
love suckers, chocolates or ice cream. Mom is trying to get him back on track again,
but it isn't easy when there is a bag of Swedish fish in constant sight... |

When we got to Ogden we moved in with Sean's mom, Nancy. She has 3 dogs
(including our Astro) and a cat at home. Astro, weighing in at something like 80
lbs. is still a bit of a watchdog and spent the first couple of days protecting Alec from the cat's swat
when Alec played with it
roughly. Alec used to play with Nicky in Timor so he now calls every dog "Icky" (i.e.: Nicky).
For the first time, Alec got to visit an amusement park, Lagoon, with his cousins.
He loved most of the rides including the roller coaster for toddlers and refused to get off
some of the rides. O, yeah, he learned a method of waiting in line,
too :-)
After 2 weeks in Ogden and spend a lot of time on playgrounds and with his
grandma, Alec went to Phoenix, Arizona, to see his other grand parents, Harold
and Linda. We went by motor home from Ogden to Phoenix through Las Vegas and Alec thought he
was in non-ending 15 hours bus riding each way. He calls the motor home the
"bus" and loved every minute of the ride.
Harold and Linda were excited to see us. We drove about 2
hours to Colorado river, California and had tremendous time boating, jet skiing
and all kinds of river sport. Alec had fun swimming and splashing in the water
again. He also got a chance to terrorize the local dogs (BIG golden
retrievers) by chasing after them and calling them "icky"!
This month, Alec struggled to learn to play nicely with animals. This is hard thing to do for him because he used to chase Nicky
and play rough with her (just they way she wanted it). He misses Nicky so much when one of the dog doesn't
want to play with him, he said: "No, no, Icky! Come on!"
Alec loves to say: "Yo! What's up?" this month and on diaper news, he always telling every time he needed to go to the bathroom
near the end of the month. The month of August ended with the meetings of Cheech's special relatives and friends in Salt Lake. We had emotional
sweet moment there.
