Alec in 2006

Alec was a busy body this year: in May, he made his first visit to the emergency room.  His second visit came in October in Singapore. Both visits were for the same problem: displacement of his right nurse bone.  Amazingly, he took it quite well, especially for a three year.  Alec celebrated his 3rd birthday underwater in a submarine in Hawaii.  While in DC Alec enjoyed visits to the museums and ton of other fun places, including the National Aquarium in Baltimore.  Alec also experienced big changes in his life: Moving to Sumatra!  In the process he moved to 4 different times, sometimes for exceptionally short periods.   Moving from one place to another also meant changing schools/ play groups.  Even though he had difficult times at the first new school, within 2 weeks Alec adjusted to his new surrounding very, very well.  The rest, he knows how to adjust to his new surrounding.  The biggest change, however, was becoming a big brother.  Alec loves being a big brother and enjoys being the "pacifier", that is, plopping Sam's pacifier in her mouth whenever she fusses.  He is also very proud of the fact that he can do and have things the baby can not (like drinking chocolate milk), so he feels he really is a big boy.  We are scheduled to stay in Medan until summer 2008

January	February	March
2 years and 7 months - Alec made lots of (smart) cute comments, leaving his parents in awe.  Alec love playing big brother to his friends.  Always answers 'Alec 3' or 'Alec 3 and a half' whenever people ask his age.  Alec has grown so fast.	2 years and 8 months - Alec loves to play pretend Mom and ask Mom to pretend to be Alec.  Enjoyed making her take a bath or wash her hands, and a bunch of other things that Mom has to tell Alec to do over and over. Alec visited Baltimore this month.	2 years and 9 months - Alec still loves playing big brother to his friends, making sure that they have toys to play with.  Presumed people in skimpy clothes are NAKED!
April	May	June
2 years and 10 months - Growing taller, smarter, enjoys bossing people around.	2 years and 11 months - Alec experienced the Emergency Room for the first time ever!  He accidentally pulled his nurse bone and displaced his right wrist.  Alec cried.  But no screaming tantrums!  We are the luckiest parents alive!	Alec is 3!  Alec celebrated his 3rd birthday underwater in a submarine in Hawaii.   Alec showed a fascinating interests in the game of chess and in maps and globes this month.  He pretends to know how to play chess and to find his Grandparents homes on the globe!
July	August	September
3 years and 1 month - Once again, Alec showed what an outstanding traveler he is.  We moved to Sumatra this month and it took 5 stops to get there.  Alec showed no fuss in planes.  No kidding!  He has become an expert on popping his ears when the airplane is landing!	3 years and 2 months - Joined a play group in Medan and struggled for a week.  By the end of the month, he asked to go to more classes when his class is over!  Alec moved to Singapore this month.	3 years and 3 months - The biggest news this year: Alec has become a big brother to baby Sam.
October	November	December
3 years and 4 months - Alec was missing (grocery shopping without telling).  Innocently scared Mom to death.	3 years 5 months - Alec's curiosity  sky rocketed.  His vocabulary is getting scary, both in English and Bahasa Indonesia.	3 years and 6 months - The best Christmas at the Stein house.  Everyone had what we wished for.  Thanks, Santa
