August 2004

We celebrated Sean's birthday by throwing a Luau Party and inviting more than twenty people over.  Cheech had a blast decorating and Alec loved 'helping'.  (In his own special way, of course.)  Friends came and helped before the party started, making Cheech's life a whole lot better.  We had 2 giant grilled fish, dinosaur  bones (giant beef spare ribs), chicken wings, and plenty of Hawaiian style veggies for our vegetarian friends.  Astuti our nanny also made the yummiest yellow rice we have ever had.  Yellow rice is an Indonesian traditional birthday food.  In Bahasa it is called nasi tumpeng or yellow cone rice and is wrapped with banana leaves.  This delicious rice is cooked with lemon grass, coconut milk, turmeric, ginger and other tropical spices.  We, of course, didn't tell people this.  We just pretended that is was Hawaiian style!

Happy Birthday, Sean!

We turn Alec's turtle pool into  a romantic leafy  pond, complete with flowers and floating candles.  Pretty - - -

Torches and candles made us feel we are not in Dili.

Some fiends stayed late...

We decorate our backyard like a mini jungle.
Being born on Falintil's Day garnered Sean an extra attention from President Gusmao
