Singapore

October 2006

Grandma, Brad and Renae left at the beginning of October and no sooner did they pass through immigration but we already missed them. It was wonderful to have them around and to remind us of the many fun places in Singapore that we hadn't visited for a long time.  Two days before they left, we crammed into a minivan and sped off to the historic city of Melaka (Malacca) in Malaysia. We had a great time there -- despite the fact that we went up and back the same day. We then enjoyed a nice dinner at Singapore's lovely Clark Quay before they leave the next morning for Utah.  We'll see you all in couple of months!

Alec's favorite places to play are the beaches and fountains.  The Singaporeans believe that water represents prosperity and wealth, so every where we go, we always find fun fountains for Alec (and Dad) to play in.  This month we hung out a lot at Clark Quay, China Town, visited the Singapore Fire Station, the National Museum, the Southeast Asian History Museum, and a lot of other fun places throughout the city.

The best visit this of all this month was to The Singapore Science Center.  Though Cheech had to drag the whole family out the door kicking and screaming (literally, in Sean's case), the boys had so much fun she had to look around for them the entire time!  Highly recommended visit, even for toddlers.

September 2006

The newest member of our family finally arrived and Alec officially became a big brother to baby Sam this month.  Sam's birth drew her Grandma and Aunt and Uncle (Brad and Renae) to Singapore for two weeks.  Alec used this opportunity to get all the attention he could from so many adults. We visited The Indian Temple on the Hindu holiday of Deepvalli and scouted around the night market.  We also visited the most amazing zoo we have ever seen, trekked to Sentosa Island (again) to watch the dolphins, rode up the sky tower, the underwater world, etc.  Since Sam didn't have her passport yet, she and Mom stayed home while Dad and Alec joined our visitors for a visit to Pulau Bintan (Bintan Island) where he mashed sandcastles on the beach.

August 2006

Though we have visited Singapore approximately a gazillion times, this was the first time we actually made an effort to put the photos on our web page.  We arrived in Singapore on August 18 to prepare for #2's birth.  Yes, we still call her #2 because we have not agreed on a name, yet.  Lots of ideas have come in from family and friends (Diane Nicole, Bailey Ann, Ashley, Emily Rose, Tan 8 (ba) Lin, Sukmawati Indah, Robin, etc., etc.) And a million thanks for that.  But we have not decided which one because we had so many to choose from.  Dilemma, dilemma.  :-)

Below are some of our pictures exploring Singapore this month.  We played at the beach, took the duck boat tour, explored Sentosa Island, checked out Underwater World where Alec got to touch a baby shark (It's slippery, mom!).  We also played at Clarke Quay and enjoyed browsing at Border book store (we spent hours there reading books with Alec). Suntec was another of our haunts. We loved taking Alec there to play at the exhibition ground where something was always on display.  Whether it was the Thomas the Tank Engine promotion, the Fitness Equipment Expo, or the Magic Show, Alec always had a blast. Because we had a tired, waaay pregnant photographer, we didn't take nearly as many pictures as we should have...;-)
