back to Medan

USINDO

July 2007

Starting July 24, our guests started to come from the U.S.  They are former Consuls General and Ambassadors.  Together with them, Sean went to visit a Moslem boarding school (pesantren) and several historical sites around Medan. Visiting the old Consul General Office also one of the agenda while they were here.  We invited several government officials and U.S. - Indonesia society to
have a formal dinner with Medan Tempo Doeloe (Medan in the old days) theme.  We have our staff walking around with a sarong, put the drinks on a pedicabs (Becak Bar, he-he), we have some artist played violin and guitar and walk around the guests and played old music, etc.

We transformed our home into a street cafe from Medan Tempo Doeloe (Medan in yesteryear).  We even had street musicians walk around at the party and played old music and pedicab drivers smoking kretek. For decor we displayed old pictures, laid out old benches and served traditional food and jajanan pasar (market snacks).

We had the Sultan arranged traditional dancers...

This formal reception doesn't make us stop having fun, though...
Cheech and the girls tried to steal the becak bar, Alec tried to put all the torches out with his squirt gun, roaring on Sean's Congo, tried to make the guests read the construction book instead of Sean's ancient National Geographic magazines, Astuti dressed up like a valley girl, it was a blast.
